Suspected Stalker Questioned: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly left her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most publicized investigations and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "What if there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What then? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a existence here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.
The panel was advised that via emails, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who compiled the information, told the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant struck up a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in that area in last December.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted using communication app to Mrs McCann to express the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the period preceding the appearance to that location, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two defendants, in last November, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We need to make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a text which said: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I desired to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
